PURE MOUNTAINS
ABOUT
The Kang Yatse 1 Expedition is a thrilling and challenging mountaineering adventure located in the stunning Markha Valley of Ladakh, India. Known for its breathtaking landscapes and towering peaks, the valley features four prominent summits: Kang Yatse I (6401m), Kang Yatse II (6250m), Kang Yatse III (6280m), and Kang Yatse IV (6130m)—all rising above 6000 meters. Alongside these peaks, other notable summits in the region include Dzo Jongo West (6280m), Reponi Mallai Ri (6050m), Shaldor Kangri (6000m), and Gapo Ri (6000m), each accessible via different valleys. Among them, Kang Yatse I (6400m) stands as the highest and most technically demanding, offering a steep and strenuous climb. The ascent includes challenging snow and ice sections, steep couloirs, moraines, crevasses, and technical boulder fields. This expedition requires advanced mountaineering skills, including the use of proper climbing equipment, and is intended for experienced climbers seeking a test of endurance and technical proficiency. With an altitude just under 6400 meters, Kang Yatse I provides a perfect opportunity for mountaineers to gain valuable experience before attempting higher peaks (7,000m or 8,000m) in the future. The summit rewards climbers with stunning panoramic views of Stok Kangri, Dzo Jongo, and the famous Karakoram Range. The best time to undertake the Kang Yatse 1 Expedition is from July to September, when weather conditions are most favorable for a safe and successful ascent.
