ABOUT
The Trek from Rumtse to Tso Moriri is a truly awe-inspiring journey that offers a unique blend of natural beauty, wildlife, and cultural experiences. This high-altitude trek in Ladakh is renowned for its breathtaking vistas, diverse flora and fauna, and the opportunity to witness the traditional nomadic way of life. The trail begins in the picturesque village of Rumtse, situated at an elevation of 4,100 meters above sea level. As trekkers embark on this daunting adventure, they are immediately immersed in a verdant blanket of greenery that characterizes the landscape of the region. The lush forests, alpine meadows, and towering mountains create a dramatic backdrop for the trek, setting the stage for an unforgettable journey through the heart of Ladakh. Rumtse to Tso Moriri winds its way through a diverse range of habitats, providing trekkers with the opportunity to encounter a wide array of wildlife species. The Changthang region, where Tso Moriri is located, is home to several exotic species, including the Himalayan wolf, Tibetan wild dog, wild ass kiang, Himalayan marmot, and Tibetan argali. Trekkers who are fortunate may have the chance to catch a glimpse of these majestic creatures in their natural habitat, adding a sense of wonder and excitement to the trek.
ITINERARY
Day 1: Rumtse - Kyamar
The dusty trail will eventually take a U-turn as you leave Chhaba Chu and enter Kyamar valley. This point is the confluence of Kyamar stream and Chhaba Chu. Leaving behind Chhaba Chu, look for multiple rivulets.
Day 2: Kyamar - Kyamar La - Mandalchan La - Tisaling
The trail now gradually climbs up as you approach the base of Kyamar La. After about 20 minutes of walking you will reach the centre of the valley.
Day 3: Tisaling - Shibuk La - Ponganagu
start early in the morning to avoid the brutal afternoon sun. The initial part of the trek involves a steady 1.5km climb to Shibuk La, which is adjacent to the campsite. The altitude gain is around 1,000 feet. Cross the stream and head to the base of Shibuk La. The trail moves south-east and the pass is clearly visible above.
Day 4: Ponganagu - Nuruchan
The valley widens as you walk towards Nuruchen, a Changpa village. Looming ahead are towering Zanskar ranges, where you can easily spot the Horlam La ridge.
Day 5: Nuruchan - Kyamayuri La - Rachung Karu
Start our trek towards the Nomadic settlement of Rajun Karu with a gradual ascend crisscrossing streams along the way. The trail is along a meandering river with snowy mountains on either side.
Day 6: Rachung Karu -Gyamar Barma - Kartse La - Gyamar
The trail from the campsite is across the river cutting through the campsite of Gyamar Barma and takes you over the steepest pass of the trek and the fifth pass, Kartse La.
Day 7: Gyamar - Yalung Nyau La - Korzok
Today is the longest and hardest part of the trek. The trail from Gyamar starts straight away taking you to the sixth pass of the trek, Yalung Nyau. The climb is a gradual but a long ascent along a river in the midst of sharply jagged mountains. After crisscrossing the river at several sections, a sudden turn takes you to the pass over a decently steep ascent.
Day 8: Korzok - Leh Drive
vehicles will take you to Leh morning, starting from your Camp in Karzok. The drive will take approx 5-6 hours. Expect to reach Leh by afternoon. Overnight in hotel/guesthouse in Leh.

- Transportation: airport pick-up and drop, drop and pick-up from expedition
- Room Heaters at Guest House in Leh
- Cost of transport, meals and stay if in case you leave the trek in between and return to Leh before the schedule arrival
