Choose Ladakh Traverse for a memorable adventure! Jul 2025 We completed the Nubra Valley trek - 5 days 4 nights with Ladakh Traverse. From the start Tundup was excellent at communicating and keeping our plans moving. We booked on the basis of the reviews Tundup has online. For this Trek he was not able to accompany us so we went with Urgyan who was a very experienced technical mountaineering guide. He was wise, fun and looked after us well. He was very knowledgeable and loved a game of cards! And obliged with the games we played whilst walking to keep our 11 year old going. He adjusted to our pace when needed. The camping equipment was excellent, the tents great quality, the mattresses comfortable, the sleeping bags warm. The cooks were incredible, serving up 3 course meals with a mind boggling range of dishes from across the world! The food was plentiful - too plentiful! Ladakh is an incredibly beautiful/inspiring place and we all climbed to the highest we ever have done including our 11 year old son. It was an emotional and truly memorable trek. I could not recommend Ladakh Traverse more.

I contacted Tundup along with several other agencies to plan my solo trek to Sham Valley. Tundup was very thorough in understanding my specific requirements and reverted back promptly with all details. Once I reached Leh he came down to my hotel to go through the plan. We started at Likir & finished at Ang with night stays at Yangthang and Hemis Sukpachan. During the trek he adjusted the pace and terrain to suit my specific fitness level ( I am 51 and trekking after a while). He also helped me adjust to the equipments, techniques & breathing. Overall to plan any sort of customised group or solo expeditions Tundup is your go to person for Ladakh. The market is flooded with plethora of options but Tundup stands out due to his professional, courteous and accommodating nature. If its Ladakh its got to be Tundup. Hands down, one of the most unforgettable experiences i've had in recent memory. I recently completed the Markha Valley Trek with Tundup in December 2023 and the trip exceeded all my expectations. The trip was well organized, allowed enough flexibility to mix things up if the mood warranted, and the local cultural experiences were truly special. There are many operators out there, but i'd recommend Ladakh Traverse for their warm and professional attitude, focus on client safety and attention/commitment to responsible tourism. We were emersed into the lives of the Ladakh people while experiencing the unique landscape wildlife and trek Mar 2025 • Couples As a couple with a specific desire to experience not only the Ladakh Himalayas but also the culture and history we chose a trek with Ladakh Traverse who offered us an itinerary that did all this including attending a Monastery festival. Prior to our arrival the region experienced a substantial snow fall. Tundup our guide managed to modify our plans as we were unable to traverse one of the passes. Our trek was memorable with snow covering all the peaks and perfect weather. Being the shoulder season we stayed in the home stays with the families and experienced life of these wonderful people. Tundup was an excellent guide, very accommodating of our needs and engaging.

It was a mix of sightseeing and a small trek which was the perfect pace for our trip. Wonderful land! Beautiful landscapes with different seasons, The mountains and river valleys are worth visiting again and again. The key is to find the right guide. This company is great! Come back here in 2022, no matter the long or short hike, Tundup will be very careful to pay attention to details, and to protect and take care of everyone's safety. While researching reliable, locally owned trekking companies on the internet, I came across Ladakh Traverse and contacted the owner, Tundup, to ask about remote treks in the region. I was looking for a truly off-the-beaten-path experience — a trek where I could enjoy the mountains, stunning landscapes, and hopefully visit some shepherds and isolated villages. I decided on the Kanji to Lingshed trek (via Kanji La Pass, 5250m) through the remote village of Dibling. It was a challenging journey with several high passes and patches of snow and ice along the way, but it turned out to be one of the most beautiful treks I’ve ever done. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking. If you enjoy trekking and camping in complete solitude, I highly recommend this route. Sadly, the village of Dibling might not remain as remote in the near future, as a new road is being built from Lingshed. Still, the mountain views along that road are unbelievably beautiful and well worth the effort. Tundup was an excellent and highly professional guide. He was incredibly supportive—especially when my fear of heights kicked in—and always made sure I had everything I needed throughout the journey. Everything was perfectly organized, and he handled any minor issues along the way so smoothly that I hardly noticed them. The camping equipment (tent, mattress, and sleeping bag) was excellent and comfortable. The food during the trek was outstanding—I was genuinely amazed by the variety of meals the cook prepared, even with my dietary restrictions. I had such an amazing time trekking, visiting monasteries, and experiencing the beauty and serenity of the region. I can wholeheartedly recommend Ladakh Traverse to anyone looking for a customized trekking tour. With his years of experience, it’s clear that Tundup truly understands what his guests want. He even suggested a few itinerary changes during the tour (by car) after the trek, and I’m so glad I agreed—those additions made the experience even more special!

If you are thinking of trekking in Ladakh, you MUST use Ladakh Traverse. Me and my wife did a 4 day trek in the Markha valley in July organised by the fantastic team at Ladakh traverse using a lovely guide called Jigmet. It was an unforgettable experience filled with amazing memories. Staying with the local families, getting to know our local guide, seeing the landscape and wildlife and pushing ourselves hiking in new challenging terrain was all incredibly rewarding. Whilst some of those experiences could have been made with any tour company, when inclement weather and flash-flooding came, our guide Jigmet and the team at Ladakh traverse really came into their own. We had to stay an unplanned extra night in the mountains as we couldn’t get home due to weather, and Jigmet made sure we felt safe and organised food and shelter, whilst Ladakh Traverse let our families and hotel know and sorted out the logistics. Having a company that are just as fantastic in a crisis in this part of the world is a must, and for that reason I hope anyone reading this decides to go with Ladakh Traverse for their adventure. They are kind, organised and incredibly knowledgeable. Thank you Jigmet and Tundup, we are forever grateful.

EXCEPTIONAL TREK with EXPEPTIONAL GUIDE! We had the most incredible experience on our 12 day trek to Tso Moriri with Tundup from Ladakh Traverse. Highly recommended. He is very competent and experienced trekking guide in the mountains but also knows so much about the Ladakhi culture, history, religion, wildlife and way of life and keen to share it with visitors. He speaks fluent English too and is very easy going. We wanted a guide who is honest, trustworthy and reliable, someone we could count on, someone we would be safe with, someone who knows and is highly competent in the mountains, someone who can organise transport, food and horses, someone passionate about their land, history and culture, someone friendly, easygoing and fun. Tundup was all of that, and more. The trek itself was very well organised with great attention to details. Tundup is very professional and you sorted out all the details of your trip. He has great experience having worked as a mountain guide for many years and is very reassuring and attentive to safety in the mountains offering help when needed. We weren’t sure what to expect beforehand, so here’s what we got to give you an idea: • Transport in a private car from Leh to the trek and back. This included visiting Hemis Monastery, Shey Royal Palace, Thiksey Monastery and Puha hot springs). Everything went very smoothly. • During the trek, we had a horseman and 6 horses (they carried our personal bags, all the tents, food and equipment. We only trekked with a day pack which makes a huge difference at high altitude. They usually get to camp early so when we arrived, everything was already set up, with tea and home made snacks waiting for us!) • All the camping equipment supplied was top quality: robust North Face 3-man tents, which are very spacious for 2 people, but he was happy for us to sleep in individual tents too for no price supplement), some very warm and quality sleeping bags (it was -10 deg C or less at night), comfortable mattresses, a shower tent (we were given a bucket of hot water every night – it was a great set up and very private and comfortable. We also had some hot water to wash our face every morning), a toilet tent (it’s like a dry Ladakhi toilet where they dig a small hole, but with a tent around for privacy), a large communal kitchen tent (this is where we ate, socialised and played cards in the evening). There was a power generator too, so we had a small light bulb for a few hours in the evening, and you could also charge your mobile). Of course, they also carried all the safety equipment necessary (oxygen cylinder, ropes etc) • We had an amazing cook (Ratjkumar) and I can honestly say the food was incredible and different every day! In the morning we had porridge, rice pudding, home-made chapatis, bread, pancakes or French toasts, omelettes, jam, honey, fruits, coffee tea and more. At lunch, we had a massive packed lunch with delicious sandwiches or wraps (also eggs, potatoes, snacks, fruits, juice). On arrival at camp we had afternoon snacks, biscuits and hot drinks. And every evening, we had a huge 3 course meal with delicious food all made from scratch and with plenty of calories for energy and vegetables and fruits. Amongst others, we had fresh momos (my favourites!), spinach, peas, broccoli, rice, dalh, chicken, fish, fruits, home baked apple pie and cake, coconut balls, and more. We also had a very kind assistant called Tara who was always here to help. • There was only two of us on this trek, but the price still was very competitive compared to other agencies and the quality of the experience made it well worth every penny. All in all, we would highly recommend Ladakh Traverse to anyone visiting Ladakh, whether this is for winter mountaineering, ice climbing, multi day trekking or a cultural trip. Tundup is an amazing and very professional guide and you won't regret it!

We had a wonderful experience trekking through the Markha and Kharnak valleys with Ladakh Traverse. Our guide, Skarma Zangpo, and his team were fantastic. We stayed in homestays for the first several nights, enjoyed delicious meals, and got to know our hosts, which was a great way to ease into the trip with moderate hikes at lower elevations. The following days took us alongside Kang Yatse, where we slept in very comfortable tents and passed through villages each day. Skarma seemed to know almost everyone we met. The ascent was gradual, with the only more strenuous parts around Zalung Karpo Pass (tiring due to the high altitude at 17,000 feet, but very manageable). Skarma was patient, walking at a steady pace and encouraging frequent breaks. Throughout the week we saw blue sheep, eagles, marmots, and pikas, and the views from the pass were stunning. Skarma’s knowledge of the region was impressive—he guided us through monasteries along the route and shared incredible stories from his past treks and winters spent as a mountaineering instructor. We’d highly recommend Ladakh Traverse and would happily trek with them again.

Our experience with Ladakh Traverse was exceptional. Even though Tundup, the owner, didn’t travel with us, he organized everything from a distance with great care and attention to detail. The entire trip ran smoothly—from transportation with our driver Stanzin to permits and timing—thanks to his excellent planning. Tundup was always available, responsive, and incredibly helpful whenever we needed support. His professionalism and deep knowledge of the region made all the difference. We felt well taken care of at every step, even when we were not in Ladakh (he provided us with drivers, guides and accomodations in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh when our plans of visiting Kashmir changed).
