Begin your day with a scenic drive from Leh to Hundar via the iconic Khardong La Pass (5,360m), one of the highest motorable roads in the world. After crossing the pass, descend into the beautiful Khardong Valley, where panoramic views of the mighty mountains unfold. En route, stop at Diskit, a charming town along the Shyok River, known for its warm hospitality, homestays, and small eateries. The main attraction is the 14th-century Diskit Monastery, founded by Changzem Tserab Zangpo under a local ruler’s patronage. It reflects the region’s rich spiritual and historical legacy. Continue your journey to Hundar, once the capital of the former Nubra Kingdom. The village holds remnants of its past, such as the Langchen Khar ("Elephant Palace") ruins and the hilltop Gula Fort. Two Buddhist temples — Lhakhang Karpo (White) and Lhakhang Marpo (Red) — further highlight its cultural heritage. In the evening, visit the enchanting sand dunes between Diskit and Hundar. Enjoy a camel ride on the unique Bactrian camels, once used on the ancient Silk Road. You can also try on traditional Ladakhi attire and savor local cuisine, making for a memorable cultural experience in the heart of Nubra Valley.
