TRIP OVERVIEW

The Stongdey to Phugtal Monastery Trek is a challenging and rewarding journey through the remote landscapes of Zanskar, Ladakh. This 9 days adventure combines high mountain passes, dramatic gorges, river crossings and traditional villages, offering an authentic experience far from the usual trekking routes.

Beginning near Stongdey Monastery, the trail crosses rugged mountain terrain and remote summer grazing pastures before descending into the secluded Shade Valley. Here, you will experience traditional Ladakhi village life, meet local families and discover how communities adapt to the harsh mountain environment.

The trek continues along the Shade and Tsarap rivers, passing abandoned settlements, narrow mountain trails and spectacular river confluences. The journey concludes with a visit to the remarkable Phugtal Monastery, built into a natural cave in the mountainside, where you can explore its rich Buddhist heritage and peaceful surroundings.

Ideal for experienced trekkers seeking solitude, cultural encounters and a genuine wilderness adventure in Zanskar.
